Why don't creditor payments by direct debit behave like other direct debits?

Typically, direct debit payment transactions in ContactsLaw operate by prompting the user for an amount which, if matched to a template, selects the appropriateĀ pro-forma direct debitĀ and populates the remainder of the form. In this respect, it can said that direct debits are amount-driven (compared to most other general transactions, which are account-driven). Creditor payments, however, are reconciliation-driven; that is to say that you build the transaction amount by selecting from a list of reconciled invoices/statements. This mitigates the need for a template-like mechanism and thus there is no need to begin by entering the amount of the transaction; in fact, to do so would undermine the integrity provided by the reconciliation process.
